Which Websites Does AI Cite Most?

Across 869 AI answers to buyer questions about software, the sites cited most often were g2.com, zapier.com, pcmag.com. But each AI has its own favorites, so the right sites to be on depend on which AI your buyers use.

The most-cited websites overall

We asked five AI sources the same neutral buyer questions in 29 software and online service categories, then counted the sites each answer linked to. No question named a brand. These are the sites cited most often across all 869 answers.

This is the useful part. The lists barely agree, so "get cited by AI" isn't one job.

What this means if you sell something

Find out where your own buyers ask. A brand whose buyers use Perplexity has a different target list from one whose buyers use Google AI Mode.
Treat these sites as your PR list. A review profile or a place in a comparison article can reach several AI answers at once. Our category leaderboards show the sites cited most in each market.
Check the page that gets cited, not only the site. Being on G2 isn't the same as being in the comparison that keeps getting linked.

What this doesn't show

This is one sample, taken on one day, in English, for an audience in the United States, and only for software and online services. Answers vary from run to run, so small differences between sites aren't meaningful. A citation also isn't proof that a page shaped the answer: it shows only that the answer linked to it.

Which website does ChatGPT cite most?

In our sample of software buying questions, ChatGPT cited g2.com most often. That is one dated sample of one kind of question, so other topics would produce a different list.

Do different AI assistants cite different websites?

Yes, and by a wide margin in our data. The top cited site was different for each of the five AI sources we measured, which is why being strong on one review site doesn't guarantee coverage everywhere.

How were these citations counted?

A site counts once per answer, however many of its pages the answer links to. Subdomains count toward the main site, so learn.g2.com counts as g2.com.
